World renowned pioneer and legend of cardiovascular medicine, Sir Magdi Yacoub is Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London and Founder and Director of Research at the Harefield Heart Science Centre.
The Harefield Heart Science Centre carries out research into all aspects of human heart disease including prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
The centre undertakes and promotes research in relation to cardiac transplant surgery, human heart valves, tissue engineering, circulatory support, immunology of the heart, biochemistry of heart failure, biology of human blood vessels, molecular aspects of heart disease and genetic research.
Sir Magdi oversees over 60 scientists and students in the areas of tissue engineering, myocardial regeneration, stem cell biology, end stage heart failure and transplant immunology.
